  • Seized Motor - What to do?

Approx 1 month ago we were returning from 40 miles offshore and starboard outboard rpm's were running lower than they should have been. Made it back and following morning discovered that a fitting for a flushing kit in the top of the head had broken and saltwater was spraying under the cowling. Couldn't find a plug for it so was unable to run it further at that time. I was finally able to get to winterizing the motors last weekend and found the motor was seized. Removed the sparkplugs and they were gummed up real bad with some rust. The motor is a 91 Yamaha 200. What would your recommendations be?

    Thanks

I'd put a wrench on that top flywheel nut and see if you can break it loose...if you can then spray some penetrating oil in each spark plug hole to maybe loosen it up enough to crank over and run. The piston rings are iron against steel cylinder linings and may have rusted together...not a good thing at all, but depending on amount of rust maybe she'll run again!...hopefully!..Good Luck!

If it was sucking salt water into the intake then you probably have major damage to the crank, bearings, and other internal shiny parts. All you can do is open it up and see what all is affected

at a minimum the bottom bearing is done.
crack it open and assess the damage.
means strip the block and rod assy's to parade rest.
