02 225 yamaha four stroke

Took out parker today and backed it off the boat lift and worked great untill i put it into forward! It wouldnt do anything but grind! I tried adjusting the linkage and it did nothing! I can push the linkage hard and it goes in but it takes alot to put it in gear and it pops back out! Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Mark

my advise would be to disconnect the shif linkage, manually shift it and determine if it is a engine issue or a boat issue, then we can go from there... i know you said you pushed the linkage, but unless it is disconnected you are just pushing on a solid cable...
