  • Do I need to add a fuel water separator filter

I have a 2005 HPDI 225. Burn about 50 gals of gas a month through the engine, fishing tournaments. I Fish primarily March through December using less fuel Oct through Dec. The boat is in reduce use storage mid Dec till early March. I have never have done a full winterization as I will hit the river if I get an Indian summer day. I run Ring free and Sta-Bil Marine each tankful. Thoughts

you should definitely mount a water separator filter, this engines are very sensitive to bad fuel, and its the most common reason for blown powerheads.

Yamaha´s 10 micron (the big one) will do the job

I vote a strong"Yes"....one of the best preventive maintenance items you can install. For larger boats/motors/fuel tanks consider the 10micron fuel/water separator with the clear plastic lower bowl with the drain pea**** so you can see and drain water and debris as needed. Racor and Yamaha both carry a full line of these filter units. Good Luck!
