  • High Value Repairs/Replacements...99 OX66 225s

New to me are a pair of 99 OX66 225s...attached to a 99 Grady White 272 Sailfish. One owner, seemingly well cared for boat, now in Florida after 14 years in the Chesapeake.

She runs well, with a couple of exceptions:

    1. Starboard runs up (and down) faster than port given equal throttle pressure on the 704 control.

    2. Trim indicators on the Yamaha gauges off by a factor of 3 or four bars when the motors are even.

As I said, I believe that the previous owner took care of the boat, but I assume in a 'not broken, don't fix it' mode.

So, I am considering a cable, control or gauge replacement. Or any combination.

Any thoughts on what is the best return for the dollars I will spend, or what I should do first?

I am willing to tackle some work myself, and would appreciate some 'second opinions' as I search for a Tech to start a maintenance relationship.

    TIA

trim indicators are probably just an adjustment, this can be done at the motor on the tilt tube,
the throttle issue could be several things.
    injector
    link and sync,
    fuel pumps,
    fuel restriction
i would start with the spin on fuel water seperator, they neen to be changed regular anyway..
those are very good motors if they are treated right and maintained..

      Thanks Sequoiha:

I have a healthy respect for my lack of skills & knowledge, so I the fuel/water separator is a safe place for me to start.

      Filters, likewise, pose no problem.

I might jump start a service interval down here, as she was at season's end up north.

      I appreciate the reply. Regards.
