    Hi there,

Not real great with outboards just need some hints, I recently went to cape york and i transported my '02' 8 hp 2 Stroke Yamaha just on the back of the ute lying down on the back of its cowl so the pull start was look straight up to the sky(It was in a padded box).

Now the outboard was in good working order when leaving, never used it as we used me mates the whole time up there, and then when i got back I now cant start it due to there is to much resistance in the motor when i pull the cord. I take the plugs out and it pulls fine.

I dont know if something internally has rattled loose, everything else seems to be tight, as in exterior brackets and there are no rattles.

Perhaps I stored it in the wrong way I assumed it would be ok to lie it down, or is this not correct?

2 Stroke can be transported in any position, a 4 stroke will fill cylinders with oil if not positioned correctly. Did any any gas come out spark plug holes when cranking it over?

Without knowing which specific model Yamaha that you have it is very difficult to answer your question. For instance, do you have a 15HP two stroke or an F15 four stroke? Is your motor new or does it date back to 1984?

Also, you will generally get better and more timely advice if you start your own post, and not ride on the back of an older post that is not even related to your question.

From looking the Yamaha parts catalog, it appears that your motor (I am assuming it is a 15MSHD as you still did not provide the complete model identity) has a lighting coil. A lighting coil creates electricity that can be processed and used to charge a battery. It is item 4 on this page:

2005 15MSHD Yamaha Outboard GENERATOR Diagram and Parts

See the two parts (Rectifier Kit and Voltage Regulator) on the page shown at the link below. One is the rectifier and the other is a regulator. You might start with just the rectifier, install it and connect it to your battery, and see what the output voltage is. If excessive, you might want to then install the regulator to control the voltage output.
