Multi Function Tachometer

Help! I have an 1988 90HP outboard and the Yamaha Multi Function doesn't work in any mode but the Tach and most of the LED's are out. I would like to have the Temp, Oil, and Trim functions. Can I replace it with a later Multi Function Tach if I splice the wires by color? New harness?
