  • PTT motor very hot

    Hi all,

Firstly I just to say a quick hello as i'm new to the forum, I recently purchased my first yamaha outboard (second hand - 200 AET 2 stroke) and have been slowly overhauling it making sure it's sea-worthy when I came across a problem with the PTT motor. Initially it stopped working on me completely and when I dismantled it found hydraulic fluid was leaking into the motor housing, I've fixed the leak issue, as while I was in there replaced the bushes and have the winding replaced. Now I've re-assembled the pump and it all seems to be working ok, but it's getting red hot to the touch, is this normal? Have I missed something or could anything else need replacing?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

    Chris

Any thoughts to what the issue might be?

I've got a similar issue. Trim works but labors and motor gets hot. Seems like binding somewhere. Changed motor and same thing.

In order to work on the trim unit I removed the whole thing from the outboard and the motor raises quite easily/freely, except that it's 200 odd kg's...

Can the trim pistons get stiff?
