  • Converting 15MSH from tiller to remote?

I have a 2010 model 15MSH 2 stroke that I would like to convert from tiller to remote control steering and engine controls. I am not clear on whether I can retain my original tilt tube (clamp bracket bolt) or if I have to buy a different one.

The existing factory tube is 9 1/2" long, 5/8" ID, 7/8" OD, 14 threads per inch. There is only about 1/4" of the tube protruding from each end past the self locking nuts and it doesn't look like that will be enough for the steering cable housing to attach to.

Can any one tell me the part number and correct length of tube that has to be used with remote steering?

Thanks so much for the information.

      Next questions.

The engine is pull start only, the helm is starboard side mount, what control box would I need for throttle and gear shift?

I'm assuming that after the remote install, the tiller gets removed. Is there some sort of closure plate available that covers the tiller mounting hole in the housing to make it look like the thing wasn't just hacked?

If the tiller is removed then the stop button is also gone, is a stop button part of the control box?

Your motor should use a pull to open control, but make sure by looking at where throttle cable will connect to engine and see if controls would have pull throttle linkage to open throttle on carb.
Then order 701-48101-11-00 701 starboard mount control with stop switch and two MAR-CABLE-xx-SC(replace xx with length cables needed) control cables.
Remote conversion kit will include rubber plugs for cowling.

Thanks again for your prompt and detailed response. I checked the throttle rotation and it is indeed pull to open.

            Parts,
There seems to be a problem with part # 701-48101-11-00. When I try to order it it comes up as a bad number.

I called boats.net, they advised me to try the multiple parts search. It comes up OK on that, but not the individual parts search. Odd.

                Thanks for your help.

I've run into a problem with the 701-48101-11-00 install, a couple of problems actually.

First of all, the 63V-48501-00-00 remote conversion kit has the throttle lever attachment positioned below the shaft, clockwise to open, which now makes the throttle a push to open situation. I don't know how I could have determined this without either seeing the conversion kit or having this information before hand.

The second problem is while the helm station is on the starboard side, the control box mount is of such a design and the control box is so large that it won't allow the box to be mounted on the inboard side (right mount) so it now has to be mounted on the outboard side, which would be a left mount.

What would be the correct part number for the 701 control with stop button, left mount, push to open throttle?

I gather for the 63V-48501-00-00 Remote Cont. Attachment Assy. would work for the controls.

Also what is the difference between the 2003 15MSHB and the F15MSHB Models?

Know this post is old but have a question and the push and pull of a control. I have converted my 1998 25 Yamaha to the remote control. Similar setup with the control on the side now pushing from the back (I guess? could be pull) I was thinking of using a generic SeaChoice SCP28401 control. Looks like and old Morse. It's called out as a throttle/clutch control. When you look up inside it, it has an attachment on both sides of the bell crank. Is this for push or pull? One seller said it was attaching to another control, but the model says single station only.

you really need to start a new thread.
                              thread hopping gets to confusing.
but to answer your question, most all generic morse type single station single lever boxes can push or pull for both shift and throttle.
simply depends on where you mount the cable.
most are also adjustable for stroke length as well.
most single lever boxes cannot be used as second station cable to cable setups.
