Yamaha 2.5 HP 4 Stroke 02/04 model

Hello all im having problems with my Yamaha 2.5 HP 4 stroke i just bought it and it started fine and ran for only about 3 minutes and now wont start at all.Its my first outboard motor and just need help step by step on the first things to look at i dont think its nothing major(I Hope its Not)but if anyone can help me i will sure appreciate it.Oh buy the way i forgot to say it is not a new motor i bought it at a garage sale the date on it says 2/04 but very clean guy said he had it stored for about 6 months in his garage.....Thanks in Advance!!!

Check compression, check for spark at spark plugs, probably will need to remove and clean carb.
