89 115 speedo doesn't work

hey, justing wondering from the gurus how do i go about figuring out why my speedo doesn't work, it just shows a dash, no speed.

maybe the little hole is plugged up on the lower unit,, take a 1/16" drill bit between you fingers and spin it in the hole when it goes all the way in then pull it out.. or you could have a split speedo tube or not connected...
