starter switch linkage

Regarding 2007 2 stroke 25 hp long shaft electric start Yamaha outboard. The linkage that shifts gears also activates a switch so I can use the electric starter. The switch is not being activated sometimes. I often have to wiggle the shift control arm to make the switch activate. It appears this linkage needs to be adjusted to activate that switch on a more dependable basis. Am I correct and if I am, how do I adjust that linkage? If I'm not correct, please explain to me what I need to do.

It's probably the neutral safety switch and should only be activated in neutral.
