oil leaking from carb

I have a 1998? yamaha 150. Oil leaks from the tank on the side of the engine out thru the lower carb. What would cause this? Would I damaage the engine if I bypassed the low oil sensor and simple added oil to the fuel instead of useing the oil injection system/

simply fix the problem.
its either not shutting off the transfer and filling the air box or the inline check valve to that oil port is leaking.

How do I check those things?
