  • Prop size for 16x52 jon boat?

My 40 hp 2 stroke Yamaha came with a really beat up prop so I need a new one before I use it.
It had been on a pontoon boat so I'm guessing I would want a different pitch.
My jon boat is 16 ft, 52" at the bottom 72" at the top. It will be decked out like a bass boat.
I see a lot written about sizing props but it all entails buying them and experimenting to get the peak rpm.
I would think enough guys have already done all of that and most would end up with similar props, Soooooooooo?
    any suggestions?
    Jim

Look through Yamaha's performance bulletins to see can find a boat/motor package similar to yours, Performance Bulletins | Yamaha Outboards

      Nope,
The closest they got were heavier boats with 50hp motors.
Both used props with a 12 pitch.
So I'm guessing i need more pitch than that but I don't know how much.
      No other jon boaters here?
Here's a pic of the boat with the deck and old motor, no deck and the new motor.
I haven't made up my mind if I'm going to put the deck back on, or just put in a floor and a center console.
In any case I don't think it'll be a 1000 lbs wet. The boat is about 400 lbs by itself without the add ons.
