  • 1998 C40 (2T) Question

I've been having some idling issues with my C40, so I pulled the carbs this weekend for a cleaning and rebuild. While I was removing them, I noticed some strange materials embedded in the potting compound on the back side of the electronic module (module located on starboard side of engine). I can't imagine that this material came from the factory, but I have no clue what it could be. Any ideas?

Hard to tell from photo, but maybe some kind of insect/spider building a nest?

I don't think so. I should have said that the white material is hard, almost like a big salt crystal. It's actually in the potting compound; have to pry it out.

I just don't have a clue on that, but if it's still working O.K., maybe no problem?...Hopefully one of the other folks on here have experienced this and can shed some light on it?...

I am not sure either, but I would not be digging it out if motor is functioning properly, that CDI cost $400 or better

            its potting materiel.
start digging it and you may also get to do a wallet dig.
quit fussing with stuff and buy a manual.
sometimes technician induced faults can get expensive.

If you can reference the page in said manual that states the white substance is potting compound I'll rush right out to buy one and send you a signed copy.

Otherwise, please save your internet forum rule brandishing for somebody else's posts. You need not reply in mine.

And if that's potting compound, I'm worried about what other low quality items/suppliers Yamaha chose to use.
