1999 150 saltwater series
Looking for step by step instructions to use water pump kit to replace impeller.
Google: Yamaha Maintenance Tips Andy, for instructions with photos for water pump and several other maintenance/repair procedures....very helpful. Just take your time and in about an hour or so you'll have it done...pretty straight-forward, no tricks to doing it! Good Luck!
Lots of how to's pages and such on Google and You tube.
Not a big deal to do yourself.
Couple tricks:
Some keyways on the shaft/impeller can be a bugger. Take your time, and it will be no worries. Little penetrant can help if stuck from time/corrosion.
Dish soap & water the impeller blades, when putting new impeller into the housing.
Motor in forward gear, before dropping lower unit.
Take time to line up shaft spline, shifter spline and water feed tube into their upper housing mating components. Don't be afraid to do this a couple times. Practice makes perfect.
motor in N works best.
you must pull up on the drive shaft when installing the collar and retainer or it knocks in fwd gear at idle.
use a dulled chiesel and hit the woodruff key in at the bottom, then come straight down on it and drive it down and out.
a competent tech can do it in less than an hour barring stuck fasteners fron saltwater corrosion.
