  • Tilt Piston Removal

I have 90 HP with leaking tilt piston. Once I find a spanner wrench and removed cap and piston, next step is to unscrew the end from the piston - then replace the seals and re-assemble.

I have been told that the end piece often sticks on the shaft, and since mine is 11 years old - I am expecting the worst (my unlucky history with my boat leads me to prepare accordingly),and don't want to break anything with a cheater bar.

What tricks / advice can this group give me - should I encounter a problem? What has worked well in the past for others? Should I soak in thread release, do a special dance, heat the thing up, get a long cheater bar just in case?

    Thanks,
    Steve - Pearland

Use the right spanner wrench to remove cap, the cap may not be available if damaged.

What about removing the piston internal rod from the bottom hub area - this is what I hear doesn't like to come apart. Any input on getting this apart?

Will need a vise with soft jaws to get it apart.
