  • Yamalube question

I have a Yamaha 175 hp outboard 1988. I always by bulk for my oil but found they are now price gouging. I need to know what type of oil to buy. It seems there is one that has an m or another with a w on the type. Can anyone recommend the right one and who would give a good price on it for purchase.

Yamaha outboards need the Yamalube 2M - which is TC-W3 certified and is formulated for outboard motors.

Yamahalube 2W is for non-outboard applications and is NOT to be used in outboard motors.

If you do not want to use Yamahalube 2M, the next recommended oil is one from another outboard manufacturer.

After that, name brand TC-W3 certified oils can be used. Due to the various ones, some made to be inexpensive and only meet the minimum requirements to the better oils that cost a bit more but offer more engine protection.
