  • Teleflex Trim Guage on Yamaha F70LA (2012)

I just purchased a new boat (Alumacraft Classic 165 CS) and put a Yamaha F70 on it. The boat did not come with a trim guage and I miss having it. I would like to install an analog guage that matches the rest of my instrumentation - Teleflex Lido series. In doing research I can't really be certain that this guage will work with my motor. Can anyone verify this for me...the Teleflex guage has only one wire to connect to the sender, but the diagrams I have found online show a trim up and trim down wire.

The catalogs for the guage list it as working for Yamaha 2001 and later, but I am suspicious!

Thanks for any help you can give me!

    it will work.
you may or may noy have the correct harness between the motor and the panal.
thats what happens when a hull is rigged with non yamaha stuff.
command link or a 6y5 package would have been MUCH better than the teleflex setup.

      Further Info on wiring

Ok, now that I have been called to task for not buying Yamaha gauges, perhaps someone else can look at the following URL and comment on the wiring color codes. This is where I got the idea that there are two sending wires:

Wiring Color Codes for YAMAHA Outboard Motors.

actually your going to have to look under the consone and see if the trim/oil warning harness has been installed.
then whether they used the 68f or the 6y5 harness.
            the wire colors change.
typically the orange is trim 5V reference which has not been used since the 01 production run.
US market motors from 01 use a two wire trim sensor the blak is ground and the pink at the sensor connector is pink.
however yours isnt rigged with yamaha stuff so I have no idea the color you will find at the console.
dont confuse the pink trim sensor harness wire with the pink alarm wire that is part of the 10 pin main.
and your wire color chart is not accurate at all.
it leaves a few details out.
            close but not quite right.
even though its from yamaha, that has been pointed out at various classes and seminars.
