  • Leaking propshaft oil seal.

    Hi ,
I have a 1999 Yamaha 130 out board. Fantastic engine, no problems since new in ’99!
The prop shaft seal is leaking a small amount of oil. How would I go about changing this seal, or is it best left to a Yamaha dealer?

you will need a spanner wrench to reinstall the claw nut at a minimum.
if its a salt water use engine you will need a good drill bit and oxygen/acetylyne as well.

      Leaking oil seal.

      Hi rodbolt17,
Nice to meet you! Thanks so much for your reply. I've got most tools, but that's one I don't have!
It's not a salt water motor but I think I'm going to leave it for the Yamaha agent to replace the seal.
      Thanks again.

Maybe double-check to be sure there's no monofilament fishing line wrapped around prop shaft and under seal, causing leak/seal damage.
