  • 2005 150hp vmax 2.6L carbureted oil leak

I have a 2005 150hp vmax on my 22 pathfinder. Recently I noticed what appeared to be yamalube leaking down the back of the shaft starting just below the exhaust. Upon further inspection i took off the engine cover and found oil residue covering the bottom of the engine housing and a significant amount had pooled in what I'm calling the bottom of the pan for lack of knowledge (lowest area in engine compartment right above the shaft). I traced all my oil lines from the remote tank to the reservoir looking for holes or bad fittings and found nothing. I also ran the engine with the cover off in hopes of visibly seeing the leak with no success. My only guess at this point is that somewhere a gasket has gone bad but is only leaking when operating under load. Has anyone ever heard of an oil leak such as this or have any ideas on what else I should be looking for? Also I apologize ahead of time I am 22 years old and my knowledge on these engines is limited so I am hoping to learn from this problem. I appreciate any help.

The engine oil tank may have overfilled, oil level should be at upper line on oil tank when full.
