Hi, I have recently bought a fishing boat with a 25 hp 1996 Yahama autolube 2 stroke outboard. It sounds a continuous alarm and cuts out when I run it over about half max. revs, if I run it at lower revs it runs fine and does not misfire or cut out , even after a long period of use. I have stripped and cleaned both carbs, fitted new plugs, cleaned fuel filter .I have tested thermostat, it starts to open at 51c and is fully open at 60c .The heads are fairly cold to touch immediately after alarm sounds and there is a good water stream showing. even as it cuts out although this seems very cold even after running for a long period of time. Could it be a problem with thermo switch or possible fault with cdi unit causing engine to shut down? Any help appreciated many thanks Pat

Pat,
I would remove the thermo switch and test it in a pan of heated water. Use an ohm meter to see when the contacts close - they should close around 180 degrees f. I have personally seen one close at 130, giving a false overheat condition and putting my C115 into rpm reduction.
Good luck ,

Hi Ken, many thanks for reply, I will test thermo switch as you advise and replace it if it is faulty . hopefully that will be the cause of the problem with it , thanks Pat
