My port side motor will idle fast if i run it at say 2000 rpm then back off to an idle. It will stay that way for a few minutes then slowly come down. Very frustrating when fast *****ing around looking for a spot then hit neutral, idle will be 1400 rpm. An ideas why it is staying up there?

Take the hood off and disconnect the throttle cable from the linkage on the starboard side. See if the throttle plates operate freely and spring back closed without the cable connected. If the throttle linkage and plates operate freely like they should then check the operation of the control cable, that it's not binding or not returning to the correct idle position corresponding to the binnacle commands. Check the cable adjustment and that the cable end slides over the linkage pin perfectly when its in the idle position, if it doesn't you can loosen the locknut and turn the end to make it perfect. If none of that fixes it you will probably need to run it to the dealer or somebody that has a Yamaha Diagnostic System kit to plug it into the computer and read all the sensors and settings.
