Hopefully someone can help me here. I have a 1985 90 hp yamaha and just got in a propeller for it. I ordered a solas 13.25 with a 19 pitch. the prop fits perfect on the splines but it doesn't reach the end of the splines, so when I apply the washer and nut, there is a 1/4 inch gap that the prop slides back on. I figure another washer might work but I am afraid of damaging the splines. Any suggestions?

well to the best of my knowledge, the thrust washer is the washer that goes against the nut and i have that, there are no parts left over from the previous prop but it has a different hub. The prop is the one the site said would work on the motor without any additional hub, so I don't know if that is incorrect or I am missing something.

thanks for the feedback, I have checked the old prop and there is no thrust bearing there. are there certain types of props that do not use thrust bearings? sorry about asking what must seem like dumb questions but as you can tell I am new at this. Also is there a resource where I can see pictures of the various hubs to figure out what type of hub my original prop is?

It's not a bearing! Can you post a picture of the back side of the old prop? We had this same discussion on here a couple of months back. I remember having a hard time convinsing the member that the trust washer was still stuck to his old prop. Mainly because he had no idea what he was looking for.
If your looking at the back of the prop and you are not seeing rubber the washer is still stuck to the prop. When we say washer it's not a washer in the coventional form. It's probalby 2 1/2" in diameter and a 1/2 inch thick.

I attached four pictures. One of the lower unit. One of the old prop from the side that goes against the lower unit, one of the new prop same side, and one with the new prop on the lower unit so you can see the excess space. I really appreciate your help, this is not nearly as easy as I thought it should be. I guess I should have just stuck to what I had

actually the last pic was with the yamaha prop.
assemble the new prop with the correct thrust washer and take a pic of the sline then.
also post a pic of the aft attaching hardware.
what you have is a universal fit prop that must use the correct hub kit.

no bearing.
first part on the shaft is the thrust washer.
then the aft attaching hardware.
however now that your NOT using yamaha part.
all bets are off.
over the years of doing this, 30 +.
I have found that universal fit parts ARE universally gauruanteed not to fit.
cheaper at the store tough.
google mechanic vs customer.
