On a recent service of my 40hp 2001 model outboard the service mechanic found that the thermostat had been removed and a flat washer put in place of . The mechanic replace the washer with the correct thermostat for that motor and advised me of what he had found .
Since this has been replaced I had trouble starting my outboard when the moter is hot .
I have found if I remove the fuel line and bleed off the fuel I can prevent the problem from occuring .
Has any one heard of this happening before ?
