trim and tilt 1997 90 hp sensor

How do Itest the trim/tilt sensor on my 90 hp (1997) Yammy? The gauge reponds to the ignition switch and goes to a middle position. If I actuate the trim/tilt lever by the mounting bracket, no change occurs at the gauge. I think that I might have a disconnected wire in the harness. It should have 360-540 ohm's between pink and black wire and 800-1200 ohm's between black and orange wire. Make sure the gauge is for a 3 wire trim sender or it will only read half of trim angle.
