  • Starter reengages when shifting to neutral

Hello, does anyone know the starting system of a 1997 115 2 stroke with the push choke ignition switch? I have been going over the sytem and found that the starter remains turning,(pinion drops) untill put into gear. forward or reverse. when shifting back into neutral the starter tries to reengage. I get a clinking noise as the pinion tries to enter the flywheel. my feeling is the ignion is crossing over internally. sometimes when the key is turned to on the starter kicks the engine over before moving the key to the start position.
Want to verify before spending 120 dollars for an ignition sw.

Check power at the relay, there are two small wires one is a ground and the other is the power from the key switch (in start position). Also verify you have good voltage going to the relay from the battery.
