25 ft Wellcraft with a 1998 - 225 HP Yamaha fuel injected outboard -Had the boat out a few weeks ago and found that when I accelerated it ran very weak - when I brought the throttle back to neutral and accelarated again - it was better but still not full power - it seems like I lost about 25% of the power it had. Everytime I run it now I know I have to go back to neutral and then accelerate again to get power but still only about 75% power. I was able to get up to about 25 MPH and now can only get up to 15MPH. Two questions:
1. Why did I lose so much power?
2. Why does bringing the throttle back to neutral and then accelerating make any difference?
Someone suggested that I change the water separator (its only a few months old) and put in fuel stablizer because of the ethanol in the fuel.
Any suggestions?
