I have a Yamaha 99 150TRLX and it has performed well except for when I put it in gear and ***** at very low speed. After about 15-20min the alarm sounds telling me that it's overheating. If I turn it off, let it cool and increase the rpm to where I plane out everything is fine. I can run all day at 2000 rpm plus. I think it's my impeller but I'm not 100 percent sure. One more thing is that it doesn't consume a lot of oil. I've had and old mercury black max that seemed to be a lot thirstier (oil) that this vmax. Any thoughts as to what the issue is?

You need to keep track of oil and gas usage and give us some info on RPMs that you were running at also, because you have not given us much to work with on oil.
When was the last time water pump, PRV,and thermostats were replaced?
They are normal maintenance items that Yamaha gives a replacement interval for.
PRV sticking open will cause low speed overheat
