  • what a 2 stroke plug should look like

Can somebody tell me what a two stroke yamaha outboard plug should look like (color wise)? I am trying to see if my engine is running too lean, too rich or just right.

    Thanks,

    Joe

So when I pull the plug, the seat of the plug (what electrode is attached to) is dark, almost like a burn of oil, but the ground electrode and the center e;lectrode are like a coffee color. Is that what you mean?

Maybe I should just post a picture. All plugs are the same color, which is good I guess.

A tan color on the center electrode insulator, some black, oily carbon is not unusual, especially if doing a lot of *****ing. Probably a good idea to run motor at wide open throttle occasionally to sorta "burn off" any oily deposits. I love my Harbor Freight Spark Plug Sandblaster(about $15) to keep plugs in "almost new" condition...rarely buy plugs for outboard, mowers, blowers, etc. Otherwise carb cleaner and an old toothbrush is pretty good for cleaning plugs. Good Luck!
