Anyone have an idea of the best method to remove old gasket residue. I have my Yamaha 25HP 4-stroke apart (replacing powerhead gasket, cylinder head gasket and exhaust cover gasket) and have sprayed on gasket cleaner and that removes quite a bit but am concerned about damaging the aluminum surface using something like a razor blade to get the residue off. I have read elsewhere various theories: wet 600 grit sandpaper, steel wool, fine weave scotchbrite...
I have the gaskets ready to go (bought at boats.net!)and was also wondering if anyone has used any other products with the gasket such as Loctite Gasket maker (but not on the cylinder head gasket as that definitely goes on 'dry') in order to be double sure there are no leaks.
Any other tips/tricks to this job gratefully received.
