The owner's manual doesn't seem to address whether it's ok to actually start the engine while using the flush attachement on the side of the engine. I've tried it for just a minute and got no water out of the side spout. Its this OK?
If you are using the flush attachment on side of cowling then water should come out of indicator (engine running or not) it may take a moment to fill engine block. You can run the engine at idle speed only but it is not needed, it will flush engine with engine off
