  • Hot Start Flooding

My 1997 Yamaha T50TLRV starts fine when cold, but tends to flood when I try to start it after it is hot. I have read on internet forums that a fuel pump diaphragm that has a hole in it could cause this condition. I am considering replacing the fuel pump since it is relatively inexpensive. Is this reasonable?

why not just look to see if it is leaking to start out with to be sure, but if you have never had it replaced before, then it would not hurt to replace and hope it fixes it.

What is you procedure for starting cold and hot?

      Hot Start Flooding

Thanks for the response. When cold starting, I just turn the key (no choke, prime or anything). It usually starts right up. When the engine is hot and I turn if off and let it sit for 15 minutes or so, it wants to flood when I try to start it. I then remove the cowling and spray some ether in the carburetor and then it starts. I think I will try the new fuel pump first. I don't even want to think about going into the carbs.

If your fuel pump has never been replaced then not a bad idea to put a new one on there. If your old one is still O.K. then keep it for a spare.
