  • 2010 Yamaha 75 starter relay assembly problem?

    Helpful forum by the answers.
I own a 2010 Yamaha 4 stroke 75. I parked it last year, and finally with our Sea ice gone, we are boating. I had no problem with it last year.
Now,the starter will not engage unless I short the relay. This starter has the relay attached to the starter, the relay assembly has a lever that push's the pinion up to the flywheel.
Battery reads 12.3 V. Cables are good. Fuse's are good. I removed the starter and relay and cleaned them, there was some rust dust around the starter relay, but it cannot be taken apart any further.
The starter relay assembly is $400.00, thus my post here. Could it be something else like the relay assembly?
    Confused as heck.

    thank you

Could be battery, connections, cables, or relay. but being able to start by shorting relay sends me to the relay depending on how you are shorting it
Volt meter would be a good tool to use to troubleshoot the problem.
Need to make sure the voltage does not drop too far at different points to see where problem is. Need to measure volts while under load( hitting starter)
