Hi, everyone. I'm new to this forum and could use some electrical help with my '89 Yamaha 40ETLF. I am getting a high charge to my battery (16+) volts when I run my motor at a moderate rpm. I purchased a new rectifier and it did the same. Today I dug a bit deeper & removed the coils with the bracket and discovered a red wire (going to my rectifier) and a black one (going to heat sensor on head) that had the insulation chafed through and grounding to the bracket. I soldered & heat shrunk them both and the motor still overcharges. Did I burn out my new rectifier? I haven't got a manual with a schematic diagram and could sure use some advice.

      '89 40 ETLF overcharging

Thanks, but I already did that. I also checked the charging system with a separate, fully charged *****ing motor battery to eliminate the possibility of a bad battery. My fishfinder has a voltage meter built in, so I also verified it's accuracy with a separate voltmeter. Thank you for responding.
