  • Yamaha 115 outboard

My Yamaha 115 outboard has very poor acceleration, vibrates at low speeds, and has started loss of power under steady throttle while cruising. I can bump the throttle handle repeatedly and it will accelerate a little with each bump until I get a fairly smoothe ride...all to begin deceleration again. I've installed a seven micron gas filter, cleaned injectors repeatedly, and drained and replaced fuel. The problem seems to get worse with each outing.

I got it back from the shop at the beginning of this summer and it ran very well for two outings but then relapsed. I called the shop to inquire what they did and they had no idea belive it or not. I remember one of the mechanics speaking of robbing a part off another motor of similar make but the manager said he didn't remember that. Needless to say I haven't used that shop again.

Gratefull for any help ... planning on trading motor if I can't find a fix.

Please give us the model (2 stroke / 4 stroke), & year of the motor.

This can be a number of things - the first thing I would do is run it on an external fuel tank to rule out a tank pressure issue.

It sound like you are starving out on fuel under load. This could be a fuel pump issue.

    I agree - get a new shop!!

It could be electrical. If it is inconsistent with RPMs, then it could be in the main harness or even the ECU. My ECU is probably bad and my symptoms were much like yours. Hopefully for you it is only a fuel restriction issue. Bad ECU's are expensive!! $1076 for just the part. Lucky me!
