I have an 87 Yamaha 70HP on my boat. When I get push the lever forward to throttle up it will not stay in the WOT without my hand holding it there. If I take my hand off it the lever pulls back about half way. Is this normal? There is a tension screw on the front of the control box the lever is mounted on.....will tightening this screw help hold the throttle in place without my hand on it?

There is a friction screw, not knowing which control box you have, 704 standard, remove the 4 screws, take the cover off and the friction screw is on the bottom rear of the assy. the part that is toward you. on a 704 premium its in the same place, just remove the rubber plug instead of taking the cover off, on a 703 side mount it is on the rear of the control box just under the keyswitch. and on a 701 panel mount it is just below and to the side of the control handle, hope this helps..
