I'm a new owner with 12 hours on motor. I just hit a sandbar. I brought the boat back to the dock and used the fresh water hose to rinse for 15 minutes.
Do I need to be concerned about damage or do anything else?

If there's no obvious or apparent damage to the skeg or prop, then you're most likely in good shape....the sand that got sucked through your motor not likely to hurt it...most folks will skim a sand bar from time to time, and while not fun, don't hurt the motors much...usually! Oyster bars are even less fun, and rocks and stumps can really do a number on lower units!

I did something similar recently and the motor water outlet started producing less pressure and the motor got hot. Turns out the pressure relief valve had stones in it. Sand made it out but not the larger pieces. Easy to check it: 2 bolts on the PRV housing.

thanks, I did not experience any problems after the event, other than depth finder seemed to be off.
