Do I need to replace anything other than the element when doing regular maintenance to this part of the fuel supply?

If it's the washable filter screen, then just clean it with solvent and re-install it. If it's a disposable cartridge type then insall a new cartridge. A good idea to install a fuel/water separator type cartridge filter on your transom. Walmart/Attwood unit is $27, easy installation, can save you a lot of fuel-related problems. Good Luck!

I'm pretty sure that it's the disposable type. I need a whole new fuel/water separator. The mount unit on those are generic, right? It's mounted in a hatch - thru bolted - easy to access, but I don't want to drill more holes...Comment
