  • replacing lower unit 225 Yamaha 2 stroke ox66

In my vain attempt to locate leak source in lower unit, I removed the lower unit. The gear selector was in neutral when removing and when I put it back the prop would not spin when put into gear. Shut motor off, removed lower unit for inspection, but did not understand why it would not function correctly, please tell me what I am doing wrong.

My guess is you did not match up the shift linkage

throttles in neutral, shift rod in neutral, as you slide unit up be sure they line up correctly, as well as the watertube
i tilt up fully to do this

Just meaning that you need to make sure the drive shaft, water tube, and the shift linkage are all matched up when put together. Make sure lower unit and shifter are in neutral.
