Oil Alarm issue

I have a 1997 Yamaha salt water series II 200hp engine. I had an issue with the alarm going off and the mechanic changed the sensor In the tank on the engine. Seemed to fix the issue.

After a few trips here the alarm goes off again and I look at the tank on the engine and the level is at the bottom line. I pushed up the switch to fill it and it did not seem to increase the level. Took the top off tank and added ail manually above the top line. Alarm still went off. Took out again and took off screen and moved float up and down with key on and it worked like it should have. Put mesh together but put sensor down real slowly and alarm did not sound. Ran for like 8 miles no issues. Take off the cover and the level is still at/above the top line.

Question, what is going on? Lol How does this work only pump when sensor gets to a certain point? I can’t figure out how to explain it. Help!!!

the ohms would change would they not as the float changes height? What should it read top and bottom?

when you removed the screen any debris in the tank bottom most likly went down the pump intake tube.
did you at least make sure the seal was retrived?
should always use a new seal.
there are no sensors in the yamaha system.
there is a 3 position reed switch in the engine tank and a single switch in the remote tank.

Which seal? Was bouncing around in the ocean so don't recall seeing one lol

kind of sounds like you may have let trash into the oil pump that can plug it up and kill the motor if no lube reaches all parts.

I think you misunderstood. It worked for a couple trips then had alarm issue. Pulling sensor float out a couple of times then it seemed to work ok ran fro 8 miles. Trying to explain why

there is a foam seal between the screen and the tank bottom.
if the seal is not in place any debris in the bottom of the tank goes down the oil pump intake.
also if the seal gets shoved down the pump intake it blocks the oil flow.
and again there are NO sensors on that system.
if swb is open(remote tank) no automatic oil transfer occurs but the yellow or center bar illuminates on the tach.
the engine float switch,all the way up sw1 closes sending a pump off command,mid point sw2 closes sending a pump on command,all the way down and sw3 closes sending a second pump on command,setting RPM reduction,audible and the red lamp or far left bar is illuminated.
its a dirt simple system that kicks techs butts cause several things are going on at once.

so if I understand this correctly you think maybe I could possibly be running without oil if seal out of place? I ran it 8 miles that way. Woudl have thought serious issue if/engine cease at that point?

If, I repeat IF there was any thing in the bottom of the tank that could cause you problems by getting into the oil pump and lines(and the foam seal is one thing) it can and will cause problems.
Drain and clean the tank pump and lines as needed and find the foam seal and remove it and put new one in.
bleed air out of oil pump and lines and make sure the system is working properly before running motor without oil/fuel mix

drain the engine water trap.
remove the screen and find the seal.
replace the seal.
make sure the remote tank is at least 1/2 full.
turn the key on.tach should show all bars blinking.
engine tank should refill in the first 180 seconds.
if not ether the remote tank filter needs service or the transfer pump is not running.

Well it was the oil transfer pump. And it worked on and off. Took it off and hooked to 12v worked then shut off, power to it on and off it woudl come on for a second then shut off. Put in a new pump and it filled up just like it it's supose to.
