Throttle bracket fell off

Im running a 1989yamaha 30F outboard on my bass boat. Never had a problem with it until yesterday. I put it in the water and suddenly lost reverse. with the throttle lever in neutral I was accelerating and to get it truly in neutral I had to push it forward. Here's the really weird part.... whether I put the throttle lever in the forward or reverse position the motor accelerates forward. Shortly afterward a metal bracket fell off the cables as they enter the motor itself. Luckily it fell inside the boat so I could retreive it. I have a feeling that someone out there knows exactly what Im describing and can help me with replacing this bracket and straightening this out. I can provide pics if it helps. aim hoping that the bracket I retrieved is the only thing that fell off.. HELP
