I was under the opinion that outboard motors were to be mounted flat on the transom. However, mine is raised with the four bolts mounting the motor above the transom plate. Out of curiosity one Sunday, I drove down to the dealers and checked out their other boats. They were all installed that way. How come?

most boat builders manufacture the transom so the engine can hang on the top bolt, or all the way down. if they are all the way up, it seems the dealer is using a longer shaft engine than was intended for the boat. shouldnt be an issue either way. -
