  • 1991 Yamaha 15HP D model 2 stroke

Hey guys Shayne from New Zealand here,
Got a near new Yammy 15HP 2 stroke from a local guy all fresh water use, its a real beauty runs sweet but as a precaution ive done the impeller kit and just replaced thermostat. My question is upon removal of thermostat housing there was a stainless steel ring (washer) on top of the thermostat. Now from parts lists it seems the washer should fit in first and then the thermostat, the mechanic that changed it must have either put it in wrong or since its maybe the original thermostat its been in that way since new. I have put it in as per the book- washer first then the thermostat then the thermostat cover.
Any ideas or someone thats done this motor before..
    Cheers in advance

I think you did it right, what do you think is the purpose of the SS ring. Does it allow coolant flow before the thermostat opens?

Hey there, I think its just a better seat for the lower thermostat rarther than having it sit on the casting.
