  • 225 Trim Problem

1997 225 Trim lifts up fine, tilt up and down works fine. Down on the trim moves slow/slow to no movement. Its almost like hitting a hydralic brick wall. The relief valve on the side will allow it to go down, no problem. Problem is trim down. It is not oil bleeding for that has been done. The tilt/trim number is 61A-43800-25-4D. It looks like there are two valves on the forward facing next to the boat. Acts like a stuck valve or trash in a orfice. But 97 engine it would have shown before now if it had been trash. Any ideas?

will it move freely down until it hits the trim ram?
is is stuck before the trim rams?

The tilt moves freely down until it hits the two trim pistons. As far as moving up, it rises freely from the complete down position, past the two trim pistons with them rising normal, and then all the way up.

Another thought, at the end of the year last year when it was being stored and the PM work was being done, I was told I had a trim motor problem. The trim motor was removed. I was told it was bad. I told him to mount it back on and I would deal with it this year. Problem with the motor running was a complete dead battery. Replaced the battery and the motor ran fine. Then is when I found the trim problem. Maybe coinidental but another piece to the puzzle.
