I am looking at buying a used motor to replace mine as the repair bill is almost as much as fixing mine and my motor had over 2000 hours and besides the powerhead it needed a carb rebuild, tilt pin bushings, oil pump, and had a damaged cowling. It still was a pretty a pretty clean motor for the hours on it. My mechanic has found the same year motor (2002) as mine, also carbuerated. He has a trusted mechanic friend in South FLorida that has been looking for a good used motor. Can I get the hours from the service records if marina or dealer serviced? What else should I ask about it besides compression, water pump, what kind of boat it came off of/owner info? When do the lower units usually need to be done on these motors? Is $5600 out the door, installed a fair price to pay? This includes freight, install, tax, and the hours he had in mine to tear it down to the powerhead and see what went wrong to get repair estimate.
