Hello all and happy memorial weekend. I have a question for y'all. My motor which i bought brand new back in 2002 has a ticking noises at low speeds. It has been maintained through out the years. I have about 230 hours on it. But the past 3 months i have noticed a ticking noise when traveling at low speeds and idling. It doesn't always do it, but its starting to. It runs fine and i have never had any issues with it. Water pump and plugs are changed every 2 years. 2 years ago i even cleaned the poppet valve. Starts right up, idles fine. Is this something i should be concerned with?? Has anybody ever had any dealings with this??

A lot of these motors will emit a rattling noise from the lower unit when running a stainless prop at idle speed in gear.

If noise goes away when give a little throttle probably is prop chatter. Could be time to remove and clean O2 sensor and draw tube.

Excellant i can deal with prop chatter... I will keep an eye on it and see what comes of it. I cleaned my o2 sensor the same time i cleaned my poppet value. Thank you.

did you remove the holder and draw tube and inspect the tube?
was either end of the tube shiney?
