New Pressure Control Valve

1999 Yamaha 90C...new pressure control valve...both ends of black plastic valve have an "X" configuration, one shorter and slightly bigger, the other end longer and slightly smaller, which end goes in towards the motor, the short end or the longer end? Neither end has a "mushroom head" mentioned.
Anybody know?

Long end in grommet, short end in spring.

I thought the mushroom head replaced the X type? The last X I replaced I received a mushroom type from the dealer.

The 90hp valve didn't change, it didn't give as much trouble as the V series engines.

Thanks, I changed it today and it was a piece of pie...just some calcium deposits and corrosion in and around the pressure control valve and thermostat, cleaned it all out and slapped it together. You're correct, the new one was the exact same valve that I replaced....probably won't wait 13 years before replacing it again!
