yamaha tach and tilt guage

I have a yamaha tach and tilt guage. What is the wiring diagram and/or color code to troubleshoot this guage? The engine was rebuilt 4.3 liter v6 and the tach portion was never hooked up and is not working and I'm trying to trace it out. What wire is it tied to on the distributer? It is an 1989 engine and a electronic ignition distributer. Thanks Garry

I don't have any manuals on the Yamaha Stern drives, we never was a Stern Drive dealer. Might see if can find a manual at www.yamaha-motor.com

Do you know the color code on the wires that come off of the guage? thanks

Outboards are
green=tach signal
yellow= key on power
black = ground
red= 12v positive
blue= backlight in gauge
not sure if same as stern drive

I have on my yamaha tach and tilt guage, a different set of colored wires. They are: grn/rd, blk/rd, yel/blue, purple, gray, brown/yell, brown/white, blk/brown plus the wires for the gauge lite, blue and blk. Can you tell me where these wires are suppose to go. Thanks Garry
