I have a 2003 4 stoke yamaha and the rectifier/regulator got cooked over the weekend. Getting it out was a pain, since the right bolt is situated behind the plastic carb intake cowling. I got the right bolt out by grinding down a 10 mm socket so that It fit and used vice grips to turn the bolt, just to get it started and then I was able to turn the socket with my fingers to get it out.
I've ordered a new rectifier already but I am wondering if there is an easy way to get that right bolt back in. The 10 mm socket could be used; thinking of drilling a few holes in it so I can get some leverage to do the final tighting instead of vice grips.
I have the service manual and it doesn't have any tips of how to do this job. The wiring looks staight forward. Engine still starts otherwise but naturally without the rectifier, it doesn't charge.
