How to start without the remote controlbox?

Hi.
I have a Yamaha C30ELRT 1995 without the 7pin remote control box.
How do I do to test start it?
I don`t get any spark on the spark plugs.
I have connected a 12V battery but it still don`t work.
Do I have to have a 12V battery connected if I only using the hand starter?
If I disconnect the white cable from the remote control box wire harness that goes to the CDI box, should I give that cable 12V+ or Ground?
How can I test if the CDI box is working?
Is it possible to measure with a normal multi meter or do I have to have a special tool?
The guy I bought the engine from said that before he put the engine away everything worked but I don`t trust him.

With the main harness to key switch disconnected from outboard, disconnect small brown wire from starter solenoid and jump to battery positive post on solenoid, engine will crank over and should have fire to plugs.

Make sure you have a plan on how to kill it once it does fire up.
Test inputs and out puts of CDI with DVA adapter with your meter like your service manual states and compare to specs in the manual

It worked correct.
I have a Suzuki control box that I will use for this engine.
It has a key switch but what cables on the engine do I connect it to?
I don`t have a electric manual on the engine.
